Description
This is a proposed drain with 187 km long and a maximum discharge of 32 m3/s at its outfall on the MOD . This drain will serve the right side parts of Kifil-Shnafiyah and Shnafiya-Nasiriya Projects located within Najaf, Diwaniyah, Babil, Muthanna, and Thi Qar Governorates with a total area of 292 thousand dounums.
Needs
At present, drainage water from numerous irrigation projects is discharged back into the adjacent rivers, increasing their salinity. As river flows become more saline, they are less useful as source waters for irrigation and potable water supply.
Objective
Reduce the salinity level in the Euphrates River. This project aims to collect the drainage water generated from the right side parts of Kifil-Shnafiyah and Shnafiya-Nasiriya Projects that are located to the west of Euphrates River and divert it to the MOD.
