Description
The dam is located in Sulaymania Governorate, in Kurdustan Region at about 285 km north east of Baghdad , 65 km south east of Sulaymania Town , the dam is located on Diyala ( serwan ) river a tributary of Tigris river . The dam was built within the period of 1956-1961 and commissioned in 1962.
Needs
All remedies and solutions carried so far on both left and right land slides, are proved not 100% effective, therefore they are considered not permanent . Therefore further assessment and remedies needs to be foreseen by a specialized consultant. Who deals with similar problems. About the issue of the reservoir’s pollution and fish deaths observed in 2008, an extensive investigation is required to check the source and give the required measures of elimination for of this pollution
Objective
The dam was constructed for the following objectives; Flood control of Diyala ( Serwan ) River. Storage of water during wet seasons and to be released for irrigation in summer. Electrical Power Generation. Development of Tourist Facilities. Development of Aquatic Life In The Reservoir
