Description
The Bastora project area is located NE of Iraq in Erbil Governorate.The greater part of it falls within the boundaries of the town of Ainkawa.The Irrigation area is located in the Erbil Plain near the City of Erbil, which is part of the physiographic unit of the low folds.
Needs
The mean annual runoff for Bastora reservoir is estimated at 70 hm3, where the peak flow estimated for return period of 1000 years is between 600 m3/s and 670 m3/s;
Objective
The irrigable area from Bastora reservoir varies between 4,000 ha (low percentage winter crops and gravity irrigation system) to 8,000 ha (high percentage winter crops and sprinkler irrigation system). When other possible complimentary surface or ground resources are considered, about 10,000 ha may be achieved
