Description

The Ammara barrage is located within the city of Ammara, Missan Governorate, across Tigris River it is one of the main structures , controlling the Tigris water levels and distributing the flow between Tigris main Course , Musharrah , Kahlaa rivers within Ammara Town and Butaira and Areedh Rivers located Upstream Ammara Town. The Barrage Is A modern concrete Structure includes 6 radial steel gates each 8x6m with o total discharge of 373 m3/sec .The design upstream water level (Pond Level ) is 9.00 masl . A 217 m long , 20 m wide Navigation Lock is provided, along with the Fish ladder 57m long and 3.5 m wide located between the barrage and the navigation lock. Needs

Since the commissioning of the Barrage in 2004, up to date , the structure were not operated properly, all gates were left open, and the designed pond level of 9.00 masl was never reached. This was necessary to avoid the seepage effects on Ammara Town which is at elevation 6.00 masl. Because Ammara town Protection Works which includes dykes, peripheral drains and drainage pumping stations were not constructed. In order to operate the Barrage with the designed Pond Level of 9.00 masl, it is necessary to construct the already designed Amara town protection works which includes the peripheral Dykes, Intercepting Drains and Pumping Stations.

Objective

The Ammara Barrage was constructed to complete Ammara Area Water Control and Distribution between Tigris River Main Course and its branches, Musharrah, Kahlaa, Butaira , and Areedh Rivers already controlled by their head regulators . The barrage h
