The dam is located in Duhok Governorate on Rubar Duhok river at 2 km north Duhok town. it is a high earth fill dam with central clay core and gravel shell , the maximum height of the dam above the river bed is 60.50 m , the total earthworks volume used in the construction is about 3 million cubic meters , at the spillway crest level of 615.75 masl the reservoir volume is 52 million cubic meters , out of this 4.39 million cubic meters is the dead storage at elevation 584.00 masl . the dam was completed and commissioned in 1988.

Generally The dam is in very good condition . no any issue is to be considered apart from the routine annual inspection and maintenance.The following requirements are needed; Digital metrological station is required to be installed at the dam site . Dam safety instrumentation are needed to be installed water levels measuring devices are needed to be installed web cams are needed to be installed foe security. Sounding device for the piezometer water levels measurements is needed. Flow meter for discharge measurement is needed. water quality testing device is needed.

The dam was constructed as a multipurpose project for the following Objectives: Storage Of Water for downstream Irrigation demands for 4600 ha of orchards located along Mosul Zakho main road, and other uses. Development of Tourist facilities and Fisheries with positive impact on environment
