Description
East Tigris Drain is proposed to serve the agricultural areas that fall to the east of the Tigris River in Wasit, Missan and Basrah Governorates. The Southern part of the drain network will serve the agricultural lands within following projects: Badra-Jassan and Daboni Projects (total area 114,000du), Sector 9 of Kut-Butaira project (8,000du), Nahar-Saad project (75,000du), the left side of Amara project (280,000du), in addition to the left side of Shatt Al-Arab project (110,000du). The proposed drainage plan suggested that this part of the drain will discharge the drainage water to Shatt Al-Arab to the south of Basrah city. (Note: the project is in the planning and design stage – funds allocated for studies and designs are included under the plan of the General Directorate for Engineering Designs)
Needs
At present, drainage water from numerous irrigation projects is discharged into the adjacent marshes. Gathering the drainage water into one drain and control their disposals improve the management of the irrigation network of the served projects.
Objective
This project aims to remove drainage salts from irrigation networks which are located to the east of the Tigris River within the projects which are limited between Badra –Jassan and Shatt Al-Arab irrigation projects, these projects include the following: Badra-Jassan, part of Kut-Butaira, Nahar-Saad, part of Amara and part of Shatt Al-Arab projects.
