Description
Needs
The structure is in a very good condition and no operational and Maintenance Issues were presented by the Project office. A new bathymetry survey is required for the upstream river reaches and for the downstream sections of Shatt Al Hilla to evaluate the sediment accumulation within the upstream reaches of the regulator and Navigation Lock and the sedimentation and/or scour if any within the downstream reaches , in order to define any required dredging , cleaning and/ or protection works.
Objective
The Regulator was constructed to control the flow entering Shatt al Hilla from Euphrates River upstream New Hindiya Barrage to irrigate 420000 ha of Hilla Diwaniya Project also to facilitate the navigation for small boats between shatt al Hilla ( Hilla Canal) .
