Description

The ‘Kalar’ irrigation project (IP) is located in Sulaymaniyah Governorate, in the Tigris River Basin.According to the Ministry of Water Resources, SWLRI Division, and after the meetings during December 2013 to February 2014, the project is ‘Partially Developed’ over an area of 4 thousand Du out of a total command or gross area of about 12 thousand Du (3 th. Ha), corresponding to a net area of 10.5 th. Du. The source of irrigation water is the Diyala (Serwan) River River.About 4 th. Du are currently cultivated (33% of the total area to be implemented).

Needs

The existing canals need to be rehabilitated and lined. Irrigation and drainage infrastructure has to be expanded. Efficient on-farm irrigation methods, suitable crop rotation system, good quality seeds and fertilizers, and technical assistance are crucial to achieve high quality and quantity production.
