Description

The ‘Small farms from Syrian border to Haditha dam (Watet Al-Rahbah – Rehana- Sagrah- AlAkhder- AlKhasfe- AlHasah)’ irrigation project (IP) is located in Anbar Governorate, in the Euphrates River Basin.According to the Ministry of Water Resources, SWLRI Division, and after the meetings during December 2013 to February 2014, the project is ‘Partially Developed’ over an area of 4 thousand Du out of a total command or gross area of about 59 thousand Du (14.75 th. Ha), corresponding to a net area of 51.8 th. Du. The source of irrigation water is the Euphrates River.About 52 th. Du are currently cultivated (87% of the total area to be implemented).

Needs

The existing canals need to be rehabilitated and lined. Irrigation and drainage infrastructure has to be expanded. Efficient on-farm irrigation methods, suitable crop rotation system, good quality seeds and fertilizers, and technical assistance are crucial to achieve high quality and quantity production.

Objective

The objective is to achieve food self sufficiency and security and reduce poverty by improving efficiency and productivity over an area of 4 th.Du and reclaiming an additional area of 55 th.Du.
