Udhaim

The dam is located in Diyala governorate 40 km from al Adhaim town on the main course of Adhaim river upstream the river gauging station of Injana . north of Baghdad .The dam is a zoned Earth fill embankment dam, 3800 m long with crest at 150 masl constructed across Adhaim river at the location of Damir Kapu in Hemrene Mountain at the gorge formed by Adhaim river cross the mountain. it was built during the period 1989-2000 , still the hydropower station is not completed the dam is still not commissioned properly.

The following repair and maintenance works are required for the instrumentation. All open Piezometers needs to be cleaned and rehabilitated, or replaced if necessary. Detail inspection of the installed pore pressure cells and supply new logger and computer system. Supply and install at least 2 seismographs one on the top of the dam at the river section and the other on the rocks downstream. supply and install of automatic water level recorder for the reservoir. Overall Inspection and evaluation on the dam and Appurtenant structures must be carried out either by a panel of experts and or specialized consultants , in order to complete the project and to stat the commissioning .

The dam was constructed for the following objectives;Flood control of Adhaim river, offering safety for the downstream areas and Tigris river. Storage of water for irrigation, and water resources management downstream the dam. Electrical power generation of 40 MW Tourism and green areas development of aquatic life, fishing. Sediment transport control , which offers Turbidity Control of Tigris river within Baghdad during Adhaim river Flood Season
